A therapeutic confidential approach
What can you expect?
Our first session will give us both the opportunity to look at the problems you are bringing and to see if we can work together. I will also use the time to explain a little more about the approach I use in counselling. Hopefully you will have all your queries answered about how/why counselling may be useful for you at this time. We can then agree a series of appointments, so that you have a clear idea of how far into the future you can expect our sessions to continue. Our ethos here at Self Matters is that we dont encourage unneccessary treatments and we dont make judgements on your situations. If we can help, we will. Sometimes clients come to counselling for just a few sessions and they find they have their life back on track, decisions seem easier to make, and things are starting to change for the better. Other clients need longer term work or just a one off session every now and then, just to talk things through in confidence. The approach I take is an Integrative approach, drawing on a number of theories and disciplines to help understand client issues. Counselling is not about being told what to do, or given advice, it is about find your own solutions which tend to surface, once you have time and space in which to explore them.
Qualified in counselling for over 20 years
Anyone can find themselves at a point in their life when a difficult situation needs an impartial ear to listen, and try and help us make sense of what is happening, possibly help us make a huge decision about a new direction in life. You may also feel it is the right time to address some old hurt or painful event, or simply improve your confidence and self esteem. Recovery from depression, grief, addiction, self harm etc can leave you feeling confused and vulnerable. Just a couple of appointments can turn your thinking around. I am a member of the BACP and abide by their Professional Framework and have been working with clients and their families for over 20 years.
You may decide on short brief focused work, from 6 – 12 sessions – usually weekly or fortnightly, or embark on long term therapy for up to a year or more.
